Why this matters
The H1 is the headline AI reads first. Without one, it has to guess your page's main topic — and guesses get you skipped. Every page needs exactly one H1, near the top, naming what you do and where.
Your business name — what you do in your city. Example: "Park Social Bar — Neighborhood Bar in Pittsburgh". Keep it under about 70 characters.
Do it yourself
Pick your platform. No code needed — you're changing a text style in the editor.
Wix
- Open your site in the Wix editor
Go to wix.com, sign in, and click Edit Site on the site your report scanned.
- Find your main headline
Look at the top of the page for the main headline text — the big title visitors see first. If there isn't one, add a text box: click the + Add panel on the left, choose Text, and drag a text box near the top of the page.
- Set it to Heading 1
Click the headline text to select it. In the text toolbar that appears, open the style dropdown (it may say "Paragraph" or "Heading 2") and choose Heading 1. Wix applies the H1 tag behind the scenes — you don't touch any code.
- Write the right words
Type your business name, what you do, and your city — for example "Park Social Bar — Neighborhood Bar in Pittsburgh". Keep it under about 70 characters.
- Keep exactly one H1
Check the rest of the page: no other text should be set to Heading 1. If Wix set your logo or another headline to H1 automatically, change those to Heading 2.
- Publish
Click Publish in the top-right corner. Your H1 is live.
Squarespace
- Open the editor
Sign in to Squarespace and click Edit in the top-left of your site.
- Find or add your headline
Look for the main headline near the top of the page. If there isn't one, hover where you want it, click Add Block → Text, and type your headline.
- Set it to Heading 1
Click the text block, then the format dropdown in the text toolbar (it shows "Paragraph", "Heading 1", etc.) and choose Heading 1.
- Write the right words
Your business name, what you do, and your city — under about 70 characters.
- Keep exactly one H1
Check other text blocks on the page — change any other Heading 1 to Heading 2.
- Save
Click Save in the top-left.
WordPress
- Open the page
Go to Pages → All Pages, hover your homepage, click Edit.
- Find or add your headline
Look for the main headline at the top. If there isn't one, click + and add a Heading block at the top of the page.
- Set it to H1
Click the heading block. In the block settings sidebar, set the level to H1.
- Write the right words
Your business name, what you do, and your city — under about 70 characters.
- Keep exactly one H1
Some themes automatically make your site title an H1 — if so, make your headline an H2 instead, or check your theme settings to disable it. Either way: one H1 total.
- Update
Click Update in the top-right.
Shopify
- Open the theme editor
Go to Online Store → Themes, click Customize on your live theme.
- Find your headline section
Click through your homepage sections (often "Image banner" or "Image with text"). Find the heading field at the top.
- Set the heading size
In the section settings on the right, set Heading size to the largest option — most Shopify themes render the main banner heading as the page's H1.
- Write the right words
Your business name, what you do, and your city — under about 70 characters.
- Save
Click Save in the top-right.
If your headline is baked into a logo image instead of real text, AI can't read it — it sees pixels, not words. Add the same words as a real text box styled to match (same font, size, and color), set it to Heading 1, and keep the image for looks. You get the design and the readability.
After publishing
Run a new CrawlReady scan. The structure check reads your page fresh each time — once the H1 is there, the flag clears.
