Why this matters
This code block (called "structured data") is the single most direct way you talk to AI about your business — it's your name, address, phone, hours, and what you do, written in a format machines read perfectly. When it's broken, it's as if you handed AI a business card with the ink smeared: it can't read a word of it, so it ignores the whole thing.
Hand this to your web person
Broken code needs someone comfortable editing code — this isn't an editor-settings fix. Send your web person this message:
"Hi — I had our website checked for how well AI assistants can read it, and it found that our JSON-LD structured data block has a syntax error, so search engines and AI can't parse it at all.
Could you find the <script type="application/ld+json"> block in our page template, run it through a JSON validator (like jsonlint.com), and fix whatever's invalid — usually a missing comma, an unclosed bracket, or a stray quote character?
I'll re-run the scan after to confirm it's fixed. Thanks!"
Common causes
In our experience, it's almost always one of these: a missing comma between two lines, a quote mark that opens but never closes, or text pasted from Word that brought along curly "smart quotes". Any of these takes a web person a few minutes to fix once they look at it.
After the fix
Ask your web person to confirm when it's live, then run a new CrawlReady scan. The metadata check re-reads your code block fresh each time.
